06/20/2010 - Pittsburgh, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Highly touted third baseman Pedro Alvarez lofted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Cleveland Indians, 5-3, in the rubber match of a three-game interleague series at PNC Park.
Down 3-2, the Pirates pulled even on a Rafael Perez wild pitch in the seventh and moved ahead in the next frame.
Jensen Lewis (2-2) walked Andrew McCutchen to start the eighth, and Garrett Jones lined a single to center field. Tony Sipp replaced Lewis after Lastings Milledge dropped down a sacrifice bunt and yielded the Alvarez fly ball to right field that scored McCutchen with the go-ahead run. Jason Jaramillo then walked, and Bobby Crosby singled home Jones to make it 5-3.
Octavio Dotel tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his 14th save.
Crosby had three hits for the Pirates, who snapped a season-high 12-game losing streak on Saturday. Pittsburgh won consecutive games for the first time since May 31-June 1.
Rookie Pittsburgh starter Brad Lincoln gave up three runs one eight hits in six innings.
Brendan Donnelly (3-1) pitched out of a jam in the top of the eighth and was credited with the win. Donnelly got into trouble after Austin Kearns hit a leadoff single and Russell Branyan ripped a double down the right-field line. Pirates manager John Russell argued the ball was foul and eventually was ejected by home plate umpire Paul Emmel.
The veteran right-hander retired the next three batters to escape unscathed.
Rookie catcher Carlos Santana clubbed a two-run homer and stroked an RBI double for the Indians, who have dropped six of seven. Justin Masterson allowed two runs on five hits and fanned seven in his six-inning start.
Shin-Soo Choo drew a one-out walk in the first and Santana homered to right field to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead.
The Pirates quickly erased their deficit in the bottom of the inning with the help of two errors. Jose Tabata led off with a single and took second on an errant throw.
After a base hit by Neil Walker put men on the corners, McCutchen hit a high chopper back to the mound. Masterson fielded the ball and made a low throw that eluded the first baseman Branyan, scoring Tabata. Jones then grounded a single up the middle to plate Walker tie the game at two.
Cleveland moved ahead in the third when Choo was hit by a pitch and came home on a Santana double.

With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.

“You play to win the game!”
Those are the words of notoriously intense head coach Herman Edwards. Unfortunately, from a bettors’ perspective, most coaches don’t feel that way about the NFL preseason. August is a time to evaluate young players, finalize the depth chart and pray your star players stay healthy.
The trick to making money during the exhibition schedule is identifying coaches – like Edwards – who can’t stand losing even when there's nothing on the line.
The New York Jets betting won 15 of 21 preseason games and went 14-7 against the spread (ATS) during Edwards’s five-year tenure with the club. In his first season as the Kansas City Chiefs field boss, the team improved from 0-4 to 2-2.
Identifying win-a-holics like Edwards is a good start if you plan betting the preseason – even though most say you shouldn’t ... but what the hell do they know anyway?
Here’s a brief rundown of two teams that have a habit of winning during the second-stringers’ season, and another club that has a good chance of exceeding this year.
Playing in the media hub of North America can be stressful but the press can’t write anything negative about the way Tom Coughlin’s boys play in the preseason. The Giants won and covered all four games last summer, improving their record to 7-1 both straight up (SU) and against the spread over the last two years.
Coughlin has shown he’s not afraid to give his starters more time in the second preseason game than most of his colleagues, no doubt one of the reasons his team has been so dominant.
Bettors can count on America’s team early on. The Cowboys are 14-6 both SU and ATS since 2002 in warm-up contests. Former coach Bill Parcells, the coach of the team the last four years, has an intimidating, in-your-face presence – surely a reason Dallas has had so much early success.
The Big Tuna won’t be strolling the sidelines with looks of disgust, but new coach Wade Phillips will be anxious to make a good first impression for owner Jerry Jones.
Dallas plays the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos before things get serious. They then face the Houston Texans in their third contest (the game starters see most game time) and finish off with the Minnesota Vikings.
Expect a Dallas team able to walk away with another 3-1 preseason record.
This team scored a league-worst 12 offensive touchdowns last season, so the rookies and veterans each have something to prove. There’s a bounty of first-unit jobs up for grabs and plenty of bodies competing for those slots.
First-time head coach Lane Kiffin will be eager to impress an owner who employs the philosophy, “Just win, baby!”
The 32-year-old Kiffin has to command respect from a locker room full of players older than him. All of these factors should lead to purpose in preseason.
Don’t forget: before playing like a team that belonged in NFL Europe, Oakland went 4-1 (both SU and ATS) in exhibition games.
