Chicago's Peavy throws eight strong, snaps Toronto's streak

Baseball Betting Lines

05/08/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jake Peavy allowed two runs in eight strong innings, helping the White Sox beat the Blue Jays, 7-3, and snap Toronto's six-game win streak in the third of four games at U.S. Cellular Field.

Peavy (2-2) carried a perfect game through five innings and allowed just three hits -- two solo homers -- while striking out eight without walking a batter. The White Sox came into the game having lost 19 of their last 23 games to the Blue Jays.

Paul Konerko hit his MLB-leading 13th homer of the season, while Juan Pierre had two hits and scored a run for the White Sox, who had lost four of six coming in.

Alex Gonzalez and John Buck homered for the Blue Jays, who were seeking their first seven-game win streak since a 10-game stretch from August 30-September 9, 2008.

Brett Cecil (2-2), who had a perfect game into the seventh in his last outing, allowed three runs, seven hits and three walks in 5 1/3 frames to take the loss.

The White Sox grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on Konerko's two-run blast, scoring Gordon Beckham, who had walked.

Beckham drew an RBI walk in the second inning to increase the lead to 3-0. A.J. Pierzynski, Alexei Ramirez and Pierre all singled prior to Beckham's at- bat.

Meanwhile, Peavy set down the first 16 batters he faced until Buck launched a 1-2 slider over the wall in left to cut Toronto's deficit to 3-1.

Chicago padded its lead with four runs in the seventh off Josh Roenicke and Casey Janssen. Pierre reached base on a bunt single with one out and scored on Andruw Jones' two-out triple off the center-field wall. After Konerko walked, Alex Rios roped an RBI double down the left field line.

Janssen came on in relief and issued three consecutive walks -- one intentional -- to force in two more runs and help the White Sox take a 7-1 lead.

Gonzalez's leadoff homer in the eighth and Vernon Wells' RBI single in the ninth for Toronto accounted for the final margin.

Game Notes

Konerko (neck) sat out the previous two games...Rios extended his hit streak to 10 games...The Blue Jays still lead the season series, 4-3...Toronto leads the majors with 48 home runs...The Blue Jays suffered their first loss on their 10-game road trip (5-1).

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
