03/07/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A pair of Northwest Division rivals get together again Sunday night, when the Denver Nuggets wrap up a three-game homestand versus the Portland Trail Blazers at the Pepsi Center.
The division-leading Nuggets have won two straight and five of their last seven games, including Friday's 122-114 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Carmelo Anthony poured in 34 points and J.R. Smith chipped in 20 and eight assists for Denver, which is third in the Western Conference standings.
"There was balance to what we did," Nuggets head coach George Karl said. "It was a solid win, but it wasn't anything special."
Chauncey Billups had 14 points on 3-of-13 shooting in the win. The Nuggets, who have won four straight in the Rockies and are 27-5 at home, will kick off a four-game road trip after tonight's showdown versus the Blazers. Anthony has scored 30-plus points in consecutive games for the first time since doing so in five straight contests back in December. Dating back to March of last season, Denver has won 37 of the last 42 home games.
Meanwhile, Portland has won three in a row and five of six games. It is coming off Wednesday's 102-79 victory over the Pacers thanks to 22 points from Brandon Roy. LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in 19 points and seven rebounds for Portland, which is eighth in the conference standings.
"This [was] a tough game to play after being on the road for so long and having success...it felt like another road game," Portland coach Nate McMillan said. "I thought our guys were business right from the start."
Andre Miller and Jerryd Bayless registered 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the win for the Trail Blazers. On the injury front, center Marcus Camby is questionable against Denver due to a sprained ankle.
The 2009-10 season series between Portland and Denver is tied at a game apiece, but the Nuggets are 19-7 in the past 26 matchups between the teams. Portland has dropped two straight and 11 of 12 visits to the Pepsi Center.
Roy has averaged 35.5 points, including a 41-point performance on Christmas, in the two meetings with the Nuggets this season.
